This painting presents a suggestive urban scene organized around a canal that winds between old buildings until it disappears into the distance. Water occupies the center and most of the composition, becoming the element that unites the facades, vegetation, sky and shadows through an extensive reflective surface. The scene conveys a sense of silence and contemplation, as if the city had been suspended for a few moments and only the slow movement of the water remained.

The perspective leads the eye from the bottom toward the canal’s narrowing in the background. The two margins advance diagonally and approach progressively, creating an intense sense of depth. This visual journey invites the viewer to follow the water’s course and imagine what streets, bridges or urban corners might lie beyond the buildings that partially close the view.

On the left side appears a narrow elevated promenade that accompanies the canal’s course. Its light surface contrasts with the dark water and seems bounded by a small wall. The path curves gently as it advances toward the background, disappearing behind a dense mass of vegetation. This combination between architecture and nature softens the hardness of the structures and brings freshness to the urban environment.

The vegetation along the promenade forms a dense ensemble of greens, grays and bluish tones. Its irregular canopies project toward the canal and seem to partially hide the buildings behind. The lighter areas suggest leaves touched by light, while the deeper greens create shaded spaces. This green band provides a beautiful contrast with the warm facades that rise on the opposite bank.

On the right side there is a succession of old buildings whose walls descend directly to the water.
