Andy Warhol (1928-1987) - Gun and Flowers

The work Gun (1981-1982) by Andy Warhol is a silkscreen depicting a revolver (caliber .38) aimed directly at the viewer, born from a deep and traumatic personal experience with violence.

The 1968 assassination attempt
The attack: On June 3, 1968, writer and radical activist Valerie Solanas shot Andy Warhol in his New York studio (The Factory).
The motive: Solanas shot him because Warhol had lost a manuscript of a play of hers called Up Your Ass.
The consequences: Warhol survived miraculously after open-heart surgery and months of recovery, but the incident left him with physical and psychological scars that stayed with him for life.

The creation of the Gun work
The symbol: Years after the assassination attempt, Warhol explored the image of the revolver within his Myths series and his works on weapons. Flowers in perfect condition, never exhibited.
Gun in acceptable condition, shows a mark in the central area from being bent; it is visible at close range, practically invisible at the exhibition distance. They belong to a collection edition published in 2006 in Spain, with authorization and copyright by the Andy Warhol Foundation. Dimensions 43 x 34 cm each work.
