Description from the seller
MiLo (1976), Netherlands – “Traverse”
Traverse is a restrained abstract composition built around a single black form moving through a warm, tactile off-white field. The dark passage cuts across the surface with a slight irregularity, creating a strong graphic contrast without becoming rigid or geometric.
The surrounding layers of acrylic retain visible traces of application and subtle tonal shifts, giving the pale field depth and texture. Depending on its orientation, the black form can be read as a sweeping trajectory, a passage, or a vertical structural element.
The work can be displayed either horizontally or vertically, allowing the composition to change character according to the space in which it is shown.
Acrylic on cotton canvas.
Original work, signed by the artist.
Certificate of authenticity included.
About the Artist
MiLo is a Dutch contemporary artist whose work combines abstraction, graphic structure and tactile painted surfaces. His paintings are characterised by restrained palettes, layered acrylic fields and strong gestural or linear elements. His work is held in private collections throughout Europe and internationally.
For the Catawiki main image, I’d still lead with the horizontal orientation. It makes Traverse feel especially appropriate: the black form literally seems to travel across the canvas.
