AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Kees Verwey (1900 – 1995) grew up in a culture-loving family, surrounded by the artistic avant-garde of the early 20th century. He learned to paint; went to the academy and studied in Haarlem, with the painter Henri Frédéric Boot.

Verwey worked in a late-impressionist style; after the war his art became more expressionist. Portraits, still lifes of flowers, and studio interiors are among his main subjects.

From a young age the artist was already familiar with the works of George Breitner, Floris Verster and Willem Witsen. Especially Verster’s work made an indelible impression. The work of French (post-)Impressionists such as Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillard also left their mark, particularly on Verwey’s watercolors.

Watercolor, visible size 54 x 74 cm, in very good condition. The work is framed; this is also supplied free of charge with the piece within the Netherlands; outside the Netherlands it is not included or available on request due to its size, fragility and weight.

The work is carefully packaged and shipped internationally by registered mail.
