Tourbillon, oil on prepared board by École Européene (XX), France, dating from 1980–1990; original edition sold with a custom frame, image size 28 × 40 cm and framed size 43 × 55 cm, weight 3.0 kg, in good condition and unsigned.
Description from the seller
- Oil on prepared board.
- On the dark wooden pedestal with an almost ascetic line, the eerie light shines full on the central lemon, turning the golden spiral of its skin into a marvel of three-dimensionality that defies the plane of the canvas and floats toward the viewer with a weight almost tangible. The fleshly translucence of the exposed pulp, the tiny membranes that trap the acidic juice, and the play of textures between the roughness of the rind and the roughness of the board reveal a meticulous technique, inherited from the great masters of trompe-l'œil. There is no artifice or superfluous ornament: the drama emanates solely from the light, deep chiaroscuro, and the mastery with which the brush captures the humble, ephemeral, and perfect beauty of a citrus fruit opened in the penumbra.
- Image dimensions without frame: 28 x 40 cm / 43 x 55 cm with exclusive custom frame.
