AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

“Corpus juris civilis” 1551, 6 books in 5 volumes.

Very rare Lyon edition of the Corpus Juris Civilis, a collection of texts of Roman law issued by Justinian in the 6th century.

Title pages with printer’s marks, entire print in red and black. The text is set in two columns and surrounded by an extensive gloss. There are numerous woodcut initials as well as 7 double-page woodcut views, some of which are fold-out.

All bindings are in used condition. They are somewhat rubbed, have a few stains and are partly somewhat brittle. On the spines there are occasional slight losses, the leather is somewhat raised in places. Moreover, all spine labels are very brittle and usually somewhat loose, and some have losses or are entirely missing.
The front cover of Volume 2 is loose.

The pages are sometimes slightly browned and a bit foxed, but mostly well preserved. There are a few individual stains.

The title page of Volume 2 is loose.
The first pages of Volume 3 have some water stains at the margins.
The title and the following page of Part 4 have some creases.
Volume 5 begins with leaf aaa8, thus the first 7 leaves including the title are missing.

Volume 1: 10 leaves, 359 pages, 226 pages, 1 blank leaf, 145 pages, 1 blank leaf, 19 leaves, 1 blank leaf, 383 pages
