An impressively large and heavy handmade Japanese sōsaku (creative) kokeshi doll, designed by the highly acclaimed master craftsman Inosuke Kobayashi.

This rugged model is an iconic example of his craftsmanship, known for the combination of minimalist forms and deep, detailed wood carving.

Offered is a beautiful and rare collectible: a monumental creative kokeshi crafted by Inosuke Kobayashi.
Kobayashi is one of the most respected names in modern kokeshi art and winner of the prestigious Prime Minister Award in Japan.

This particular piece immediately stands out for its exceptionally large and robust size. With a height of 34 cm and a diameter of no less than 14 cm, this is a solid and heavy work of art.

The garment (kimono) is masterfully decorated with fine wood-engraving lines depicting autumn leaves (momiji) and traditional wave motifs. The contrast between the light, warm-toned wood and the sleek black bob haircut gives the doll a timeless, modern look that fits perfectly in a Japandi or design-oriented interior.

The doll is in good, solid vintage condition. The wood carving and the detailed painting on the body and face have been beautifully preserved. As is typical for objects of this age, the characteristic black bob haircut shows superficial wear and slight discoloration craquelé in the black lacquer (see photos). This gives the doll authentic patina and character. No structural cracks in the wood.
