The Apocalypse explained by the Ecclesiastical History, in Paris, at Pierre Giffart, Bookseller & Royal Engraver. 1701, With the approval & Privilege of the King. 398 pages, 17 by 23. Well complete with the 7 plates out of text.
Followed by Lives of a few Emperors, Authors of the last Persecution, followed by the Peace of the Church, of which is spoken in this explanation of the Apocalypse, 72 pages in the same format.
BEAUTIFUL PROVENANCE: a handwritten note beneath the printer's imprint indicates that the copy would have belonged to Abbot Joachim de la Chétardie, who died in 1714, confessor of Madame de Maintenon and uncle of Jacques-Joachim Trotti, who was the organizer of the coup d'état that placed Elisabeth Ire on the throne of Russia in 1741.
Some foxing on the last pages, gilt edges and covers adorned in gold. Fine period binding decorated with gold laurel.
