Description from the seller
Demetrio Susín Barra (1949) – Beach Scene
Charming original small-format painting by the Spanish artist Demetrio Susín Barra (born 1949), depicting a lively coastal scene with several figures spread along the beach.
Despite its small dimensions —approximately 9 × 11 cm for the work— the composition possesses notable pictorial richness. Susín builds the figures with quick, economical brushstrokes, using small touches of color and light impasto, especially visible in the whites of the dresses and hats. The brushstroke remains deliberately visible, imparting spontaneity and movement to the scene.
The composition blends warm ochre tones of the sand with blues, grays and earth tones in the sea and horizon. The figures, barely sketched but perfectly recognizable when viewing the work from a certain distance, recall the tradition of Spanish luminist painting and show the influence of Joaquín Sorolla and the Valencian school that has been noted in the artist’s production.
The female figure seated in the foreground is especially attractive, built with just a few white, gray and ocher brushstrokes, as well as the group of characters that animates the center of the composition. The scene conveys the feeling of a snapshot captured directly on the beach, more interested in light, atmosphere and movement than in a meticulous description of the figures.
Demetrio Susín Barra is a Spanish artist born in 1949, trained in Fine Arts and a drawing professor. His work spans different techniques and formats, with particular interest in landscape and figure. He is documented as having a degree in Fine Arts and working as a drawing professor, and his works in watercolor as well as oil and mixed media appear on the market.
The work is signed “Susín” in the lower left area and is presented framed. It has been purchased directly from the artist.
