Sergio Nardoni (1947) - Piccoli amanti

Sergio Nardoni is a Florentine artist born in 1947, who showed early talent for drawing as a child. At seven he painted his first oil painting at his elementary school teacher's house, who was an amateur painter.

Although his family wanted him to continue running the family business, Nardoni decided to pursue his passion for art and enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, after studying and working in many different fields. During his studies, he was a pupil of Loffredo and Manfredi, but was immediately drawn to other artistic experiences.

After graduation, Nardoni devoted himself to teaching, first as a teacher at the Scuola Media Statale di Firenze and then as a lecturer at the Florence campus of Rutgers University – The State University of New Jersey. Later he taught at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Sichuan University in China, with which he collaborated for a long period.

Throughout his career, Nardoni has exhibited in numerous national and international exhibitions, including "Ab Antiquo" in the Sala d'Arme of Palazzo Vecchio, Florence, in 1986 and the series "Firenze per l'Arte Contemporanea" also in 1986, where he exhibited in the Sala dei Pittori Moderni della Realtà next to works by the Bueno brothers, Sciltian and Pietro Annigoni at the Forte di Belvedere, Florence.

In 1996 he held a solo show at Art Expo in New York and in 1998 an exhibition of his works was organized in Malta, personally presented by the President of the Maltese Republic. In 2005 the Galleria Orler in Venice presented the solo show "Presente Remoto" entirely devoted to cinema.

In 2011 a major Retrospective Exhibition was organized for his 40 years of painting, titled "Il Genio Ingenuo" and curated by Giovanni Faccenda at the Museo Archeologico di Fiesole (FI), followed by the solo show for the 150th anniversary celebrations of Italy's Unification in the Sala delle Colonne of Pontassieve (FI), curated by Pier Francesco Listri and presented by Cristina Acidini, Superintendent of the Florence Museum Complex.

In January 2015 he participated in the "Capriccio italiano" series in Beijing (China) at the Italian Embassy Exhibition Space in China, inaugurated by Italian Ambassador to China Alberto Bradanini, followed by the solo show "L'Ottagono Magico" curated by Alessandro Sarti and presented in the catalog by Cristina Acidini at the prestigious Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence.

Nardoni's works are found in important art collections, such as the National Museum of the Bargello in Florence, the Papal Collections of the Vatican City State, the Collection of the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence, and the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. Among his major public works is the important painted cycle placed on the apse arch of the 15th-century cathedral of San Miniato (PI) and the large mosaic cycle dedicated to Chianti, created for the Municipality of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa (FI), spread across the four faces of a pyramidal structure and installed at the center of the town square, titled "Depth on the Surface".

Throughout his over-four-decade career, Nardoni has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the National Prize "Sulmona" in 1983, the Gold Medal at the Massarosa Biennale (Lucca) in 1984, the National Prize "Carlo Carrà" in 1990, the Prize "Città di Acqui Terme" in 2005, the Paestum Career Award in 2007, the Stresa Prize in 2008, the Domenico Cresti prize nicknamed Il Passignano in 2009, the Regione Piemonte Award in 2010, and the Lago Maggiore Award for Art in 2015.
