Decorative enamel-glazed porcelain clog – Style Compagnie des Indes – Maison Samson – 19th century
Unusual and elegant trompe-l'œil hard-paste porcelain clog produced by Maison Samson (Paris, 19th century), imitating 18th-century export Chinese porcelain in the Famille Rose / East India Company style.
Decoration:
On the top of the tip, a cartouche-shaped reserve formed by gold scrolls houses a Chinese genre scene meticulously hand-painted, depicting two figures beside roosters.
The sides are adorned with sprays of blooming polychrome flowers (peonies, chrysanthemums) and geometric borders in red iron and gold marking the loop and the edges of the clog.
Mark: Under the base, presence of an apocryphal mark or workshop seal in blue underglaze / red underglaze on a clean surface, typical of imitations produced by the Parisian house Samson.
