Hellenica XVII – Classical Face with Gold Drips
A large contemporary painting (140 × 140 cm) by Florentine painter Francesco Farolfi (born 1958), belonging to the series "Hellenica," dedicated to reinterpretations of the ideal beauty of Greco-Roman statuary.
The subject, inspired by models of classical antiquity, is reinterpreted through a minimalist, tactile painting, played on a palette of warm grays, whites, and earth tones. The face emerges from the surface as a suspended apparition in time, preserving the expressive force and balance of ancient sculptures.
A distinctive feature of the work is the special finish consisting of vertical drips of gold, made with gold powder dispersed in a binder and applied entirely by hand.
These metallic veils are not merely decorative; they create a dialogue between the permanence of the classical form and the fluidity of matter, transforming the surface into an assembly of light, movement, and translucencies. Depending on the lighting, the gold reflects light with varying intensity, giving the painting a changing appearance.
The work was entirely handmade on a carefully prepared MDF panel, reinforced at the back with a sturdy perimeter wooden frame that ensures stability and resistance to warping.
