KPM Berlin – Large pierced porcelain basket with violets and ribbon – hand-painted – ca. 1870–1890

Large and refined decorative porcelain basket from the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin (KPM), characterized by an elaborate pierced structure that imitates the weave of a basket. The body, articulated in four wide lobes, is traversed by four curved handles that converge at the top and are decorated with plastically modeled ribbons in pink and purple tones, culminating in a large hand-formed bow.
The interior is adorned with numerous bouquets and single violet flowers painted by hand, scattered freely on the white surface.
On the base are present the blue underglaze KPM Berlin scepter and the imperial red Reichsapfel/globe with the letters KPM, a mark used by the manufactory for floral decorations. There are also numerations and marks of workmanship/decorating.
The KPM manufactory documents a long tradition in the production of pierced porcelain baskets, in which the delicate weave is worked by hand.

Conditions
The item is overall in good preservation for its age and the particular delicacy of the pierced structure.
There is a localized flaw in the pierced part of the basket, visible in the detail photographs, affecting some elements of the grid. In the same area there are slight surface alterations.
There is also a small abrasion/ superficial trace inside the basket, also documented photographically.
Normal and light signs of time and use are present, compatible with the era. The delicate polychrome decoration with violets is overall well preserved.
The photographs, including the detail shots of the defects described above, are an integral part of the description and should be considered as references for the state of conservation.
