AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Vintage Spanish Escardibul 'Ajedrez Stawton N. 6 chess' pieces. Made in the '60-ties. Made from burnt olive wood, the idiosyncratic way of Eusebio Escardibul, the then owner of Escardibul in Mataro near Barcelona, of making chess pieces. The burning of the wood not only creates the dark pieces, but also the dark ornamental patterns on the natural olive wood pieces of the white side. King size is 94 mm. The pieces are in mint condition. Escardibul was founded in 1840 in Barcelona and started as a famous producer of Billiard equipment. In the 1920's, under the management of Eusebio Escardibul, the company expanded its products inter alia to chess and over the years became one of the famous Spanish chess set manufacturers with, besided the burning, crude Knight carvings being one of their trademarks. The making of chess sets lasted only a few decades, so Escardibul sets are relatively rare to find. Inclusive original box and vintage chess board.
