Description
Old French violin H. Clotelle – Artistic Luthiery, presumably from Laberte-Humbert workshops in Mirecourt, a French manufacturer renowned for its luthiery production at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

The violin comes from my family and belonged to my grandfather. It has been kept for many years in its case with the bow presented in this sale.
Dimensions and characteristics of the violin:
– Violin 4/4
– Back length: 360 mm
– Top made of spruce
– Back and ribs in maple
– Ebony fingerboard
– Old brown-red varnish displaying a patina and signs of use corresponding to its age.
State:
The instrument is sold as is and to be restored.
It is currently not assembled and therefore not playable. The bridge, tailpiece and strings are absent.
The sound post is present but has detached and is currently loose inside the body. It will need to be repositioned by a luthier.
A fine vertical crack is visible on the top plate near the lower nut. It may correspond to an old crack or to a wood/varnish mark. No relief or opening is detectable by touch, but since the instrument has not been examined by a luthier, its origin and exact condition cannot be guaranteed.
There is also some varnish/material loss near the lower nut, as well as various marks, scratches and wear due to age and use.
