Vintage wooden wall console – richly carved – decorative wall shelf – 1980s

Beautifully designed wooden wall console from the 1980s, executed in a historizing style that clearly draws on classical furniture and interior ornamentation.

The console is made of dark-stained wood and features a striking architectural design. At the top is a rectangular top surface on which, for example, a sculpture, vase, candelabrum, or another decorative object can be placed. Below, the console tapers into a richly carved vertical support with various geometric and floral ornaments.

Particularly notable are the recessed square decorations on the front and sides, the central circular motif, and the carved leaf-like ornaments at the bottom. Because of its sturdy, sculptural character, this is not only a practical wall shelf but also a beautiful wall object even without decorations.

This type of historizing interior piece was also produced in the second half of the 20th century, with traditional forms and woodcarving reapplied within classic and rural interiors. For this example, the dating is assumed to be the 1980s; no maker was found.

Condition
In used vintage condition with wear appropriate to age. The wood shows minor scratches, small dents, color variations, and wear to the finish in places. Small signs of use are visible on some edges.
