Description of the work
Large and powerful composition by Gundi Falk, circa 2000.
Two massive figures intertwine in a dark space, built from broad swathes of gray, white and black. The bodies, both sensual and abstract, are drawn with thick, spontaneous, almost calligraphic strokes. The gesture is free, energetic, sometimes brutal: impasto, drips and overlapping layers give the whole a very strong physical presence. The former contemporary dancer captures here the body in its tension, its weight and its rhythm.
The composition oscillates between figuration and organic abstraction, faithful to the gestural energy that characterizes Gundi Falk’s work at this period.
A distinctive piece, of generous format, with rare intensity.
