Il fumatore di pipa - da Giovanni Battista Torriglia, oil on canvas 50 x 40 cm, Italian School (XX), a hand-signed author’s copy in a classical style depicting a portrait, Italy, period 2020+, original edition.
Description from the seller
This painting revisits "The Pipe Smoker" by Giovanni Battista Torriglia (Genoa, 1857–1937), a Genoese painter trained at the Accademia Ligustica and pupil of Nicolò Barabino, best known as an interpreter of genre painting and scenes of domestic and family life, rendered with a delicate brushstroke and a warm, enveloping light that characterized his style, inherited from the Genoese master and developed in intimate family scenes that almost always unfold within the walls of the home.
The work offered here is an author’s copy; the artist of the Italian school has carefully reproduced, with technical care and painting sensitivity, the original subject of the Ligurian master. It is therefore not an autographed Torriglia painting, but a faithful reinterpretation in style, designed for those who love the nineteenth-century painterly atmosphere but seek an accessible work.
