Description from the seller
Single original work created in acrylic on canvas.
Born in 1987 in the north of France, Antoine Stevens discovered graffiti during his adolescence before developing a painting practice in the studio from 2005. His artistic universe sits at the crossroads of street art and contemporary figurative portraiture. Through free gestural action, plays of transparency, and a subtle handling of material, he composes portraits imbued with emotion where realism, abstraction, and spontaneity meet with remarkable sensitivity. His work is today presented in several galleries in France and internationally.
With Emmy, Antoine Stevens signs an intimate work where emotion arises from the balance between the precision of the gaze and the freedom of gesture. The face seems to gradually emerge through fine sketches, transparencies, and light splashes that deliberately leave parts of the composition unfinished. This approach gives the work great softness and a sense of permanent movement.
The warm tones of ochre, earth, and brown are awakened by the turquoise intervention characteristic of the artist, creating a subtle contrast between delicacy and contemporary energy. The gaze, intensely expressive, becomes the true anchor point of the composition and invites the viewer to a silent encounter with the model.
Through its intimate format and the finesse of its execution, Emmy perfectly illustrates Antoine Stevens’ ability to capture emotion with a remarkable economy of means, while preserving the gestural power that characterizes his work.
