This is an antique Japanese portable smoking set from Late Meiji to early Showa era, a classic folk art object widely used by townspeople in Japan.

The complete waist-hung set consists of a three-case maki-e inro, a kiseru pipe, leather kiseruzutsu, glass ojime bead and cord.

1. Japanese Kiseru (煙管): natural bamboo stem fitted with copper fittings at both ends. The copper parts are decorated with chiselled scrolling vine patterns.
2. Kiseruzutsu (煙管筒): cowhide sleeve for storing the kiseru pipe.
3. Three-case Inro (印籠): wood core with urushi lacquer, nashiji gold speckled ground, decorated with gold maki-e painting of cherry blossoms and pine needles. Fitted with cord and glass ojime bead. Historically worn at the waist, used to store seals, incense powder and tobacco.

The set retains its complete original configuration.

Combining lacquer, leather, bamboo and copper craftsmanship, it represents the aesthetic of antique Japanese portable art. Suitable for Japanese folk art collection, interior display and specialised smoking artefact collection.

Due to age, the lacquer surface of the inro shows natural ageing. Metal parts have oxidation. The whole piece bears wear and scratches from historical use. No repairs, structurally complete. Good condition relative to its age.
