Description from the seller

This ancient sacred Orthodox icon, painted in tempera on a single wooden panel, depicts the Three Holy Hierarchs: Saint John Chrysostom, Saint Basil the Great, and Saint Gregory the Theologian. The three sacred figures are portrayed frontally with expressive gazes, framed by large halos decorated with geometric punctuated motifs typical of Byzantine art. With dimensions of thirty-three centimeters in height by twenty-eight in width, the panel conforms to the classic format intended for domestic devotion or a small iconostasis.

The icon is offered in its original discovery state, without recent restorations. The painted surface shows evident signs of time and requires a professional consolidation intervention. Along the edges there are losses of color and of the plaster base, while the central part shows flaking of the paint. Despite these conservation defects, the original layer in the crucial details of the faces and garments remains intact and perfectly legible, making this piece an excellent opportunity for collectors and restorers.
