FIRST EDITION. The text represents an important milestone in the history of Venetian medicine in the eighteenth century. In this treatise, Andrea Fasuol firmly defended the clinical efficacy and the necessity of resorting to the practice of bloodletting (phlebotomy) to treat patients affected by syphilis (at the time called "lue venerea") admitted to the important Ospedale degli Incurabili of Venice. The work originated as a polemical and scientific response to another treatise of the era written by Professor Simon Tosio, entitled Il salasso liberato, which adopted more critical and restrictive positions regarding the use of this medical practice.
