Description:
A rustic Japanese stoneware vase with a strong, sculptural presence. The vessel has a gently tapering cylindrical form, widening toward the lower body and narrowing to a thick, rounded mouth. Three small applied circular lugs decorate the shoulder, adding a subtle architectural detail to the otherwise restrained form.
The surface is left largely unglazed, displaying rich earthy tones of reddish brown, dark chocolate, and warm ochre. Natural firing effects create irregular patches, speckling, and soft tonal transitions across the body, while horizontal throwing marks remain visible and emphasize its handmade character. The overall appearance is reminiscent of Bizen-style high-fired stoneware, though the exact kiln or maker would require further attribution.
The underside is unglazed and shows firing marks together with an impressed or incised potter’s mark. Small surface irregularities, kiln effects, and signs of age are present, consistent with the nature of handmade fired pottery.
A handsome and understated piece, well suited as an ikebana vase, flower vessel, or standalone decorative object, with a warm wabi-sabi character.
