Attributed to Adolphe Weisz (1838–1916), Hungarian-born French painter – Young Woman in an Interior

19th-century oil painting on wooden panel depicting an elegantly dressed young woman seated in a richly furnished interior with period furniture, textiles, flowers and a decorative leaded-glass window. The work can be dated stylistically to the second half of the 19th century, probably c. 1865–1880.

The painting bears an old, partially obscured and worn signature in the upper left corner, executed in paint. The inscription appears to read “Ad.” / “Ad. Weisz”. A detailed photograph of the signature is included. Based on the signature, technique, subject matter and stylistic comparison, the work is offered attributed to Adolphe Weisz (1838–1916). This attribution is based on our in-house research and assessment and has not been independently authenticated.

Framed dimensions: approx. 25 × 21 cm (H × W). Depth has not been recorded.

Provenance: acquired in the course of a private household clearance. Earlier ownership and collection history are unknown.

Documentation: no original invoice, certificate of authenticity, expert report or catalogue raisonné reference accompanied the work. The attribution stated above is therefore based exclusively on our own research and examination of the painting.

Condition: age-related craquelure, surface wear and abrasion, small areas of paint loss and an aged varnish. The wooden panel and reverse show signs of age, including an old handwritten inventory/reference number. No documented restoration history is available. The decorative wooden frame shows considerable age-related wear, rubbing and losses.
