Description from the seller
Two cards signed by two towering champions: Eddy Merckx and Luis Ocana
The cards are rare as they come from the start of their careers. The signatures are authentic.
Eddy Merckx wore the Peugeot BP Michelin jersey in 1966 during his second year as a professional. Luis Ocana wore the Mercier BP Hutchinson jersey in 1967 while he was still an amateur.
The two riders would face each other in the 1971 Tour de France, a edition that went down in history for Luis Ocana's crash on the descent of the Col de Menté during the twelfth stage Orcières Merlette-Marseille. While Ocana had several minutes’ lead over Eddy Merckx, he was forced to abandon after being struck by several riders in the storm.
That same evening, Eddy Merckx refused to wear the yellow jersey in tribute to his rival. He would go on to win his third Tour de France.
Ocana would have his revenge in 1973 by winning the Tour de France, but in the absence of Eddy Merckx, who was not present that year.
