In this work, Wilfried Raguel combines a meticulously developed figurative portrait with a particularly dynamic abstract composition. The seated figure stands out from a graphic environment built from geometric shapes, lines, spontaneous gestures, and bold colors. The contrast between the precision of the character and the freedom of the background creates a dialogue between figuration and abstraction.

The deliberately absent gaze, a recurring element in the artist’s work, gives the character a presence that is both strong and enigmatic. Through this motif, Wilfried Raguel continues his reflection on the portrait, identity, and our way of perceiving the other. French artist based in Madrid and graduate of the Beaux-Arts, Wilfried Raguel develops work around portrait, identity and representation. His work was notably presented at the solo exhibition Beyond the Gaze at the Passe-Vite Gallery, in Lisbon, in 2024.
