Description from the seller
About the artwork:
With The Emerald Radiance, GYL offers a female portrait with a remarkably striking presence, inspired by the elegance and refinement of the Art Deco universe and the Jazz Age.
Under an imposing cloche hat, the model fixes the viewer with a luminous green gaze. The deep red of the lips, the coppery tones of the hair, and the warm hues of the face contrast with the greens and blacks of the backdrop. In the background, geometric shapes and flat areas of color reinforce the graphic and decorative character of the composition.
The treatment of the face, deliberately soft and sophisticated, contrasts with the more structured lines of the surroundings. This construction immediately focuses attention on the gaze and gives the work a strong visual presence.
About the Artist
GYL is a French painter and draughtswoman of note, recognized for her mastery of oil portraiture on canvas. Her work, imbued with sensitivity and realism, captures the soul of her subjects with remarkable technical precision and rare emotional depth.
