About the Artwork
In Lace Breath, Gyl stages a female model whose silhouette seems to be born from an entanglement of lace and flowers. The white, meticulously worked, stands out against a powdered background in soft and enveloping tones. The floral motifs that run through the garment extend into the décor, gradually erasing the boundary between body, fabric and ornament.
The profile pose, the lowered gaze and the restraint of the gesture establish an intimate and contemplative atmosphere. The broad opening of the garment reveals the back while preserving an impression of elegance and mystery. The almost chiseled precision of the lace contrasts with the softness of the flesh and gives the whole a dimension that is both sensual and poetic.
Through this work, Gyl celebrates a delicate and sovereign femininity, where the flower can be seen as the symbol of blossoming, of ephemeral beauty and of renewal.
