The tableware service offered at auction was made by Seltmann Weiden and decorated with an unusual design that sits halfway between Space Age style and Postmodern design. Dating probably to the mid-1960s, the bold and sharp decoration, with psychedelic twists and pop colors, is typical of those years and widespread in the Central European area.
One of the main protagonists of design history in this period is Hans Theo Baumann (1924-2016), a visionary freelance designer who, from 1954 on, designed porcelain objects for over fifty German manufacturers, revolutionizing the language and style of German table porcelain. Baumann brought Op-Art-styled drawings to plates and vases, speaking a new language that was highly appreciated for its vibrant colors. Numerous Bavarian manufacturers turned to him to reinterpret their models and decors, generating a true artistic current that for at least a decade distinguished German-made porcelain from that of other countries.
The service was produced by Winterling Bavaria in the Eighties.
