Art Deco round serving tray – ceramic inlay with swan decor – perforated metal gallery edge – ca. 1920–1935

Atmospheric and distinctive round tray from the Art Deco period, with a decorative ceramic inlay and an elegant metal surround. The central tableau shows two white swans on bright turquoise water, surrounded by dark trees and clouds. The strong color blocks and simplified forms give the whole its characteristic graphic look of the interwar period.

The tray is finished all around with a raised, openwork gallery rim. On both sides there are beautifully twisted handles, giving the object an especially decorative character even from the side. Similar round serving trays from the twenties were produced in silver-plated or otherwise finished metal and combined with decorative inserts of ceramic, glass, or mirror glass. Round Art Deco serving trays from circa 1925 are also documented in antique shops.

The swan decoration is especially attractive: the combination of white, deep petrol green and turquoise gives the tray, despite its age, a strikingly fresh appearance. It can of course be used as a serving tray, but is just as attractive as a decorative object on a sideboard, end table, or bar cabinet.

Condition
Used condition with normal age- and wear-related marks. The metal shows patina, discoloration, superficial scratches, and localized wear. On the reverse side of the ceramic inlay a fine hairline appears to be visible. It is not visible on the upper side. Furthermore, there are light signs of use and small discolorations; see the detail photos for a good impression of the condition.
