Large vintage bamboo/rattan plant stand – sculptural plant rack – 1960s/70s

A particularly decorative and strikingly large plant stand, made in natural bamboo and rattan. Thanks to the rounded side structures, multiple levels and the playful geometric lines, this is not just a plant rack but really a piece of furniture in its own right.

This type of bamboo- and rattan-made furniture became especially popular in the 1960s and 1970s, when natural materials and organic shapes started to play a major role in interiors. Comparable vintage plant stands from this period are nowadays often described as Mid-Century, Boho-Chic, or Hollywood Regency-inspired.

The construction of this specimen is strikingly richly executed. The large curved side arches give the furniture an almost architectural look. In the middle there are multiple levels with woven rattan shelf surfaces, suitable for different plant pots, decorative objects, or a combination thereof. The round decorative elements at the heart reinforce the typical 60s/70s character.

Comparable plant stands from the 1970s were also made from curved bamboo in combination with woven wicker or rattan; it is precisely this combination of light construction, warmth and artisanal bindings that is characteristic for this type of interior furniture.
