Herda - Table lamp (2) - Empire Style - Brass, Steel, Textile - Set

An impressive and decorative set of two matching table lamps from Herda Amsterdam, executed in a classic Empire/Neoclassical style. The lamps have a stately, architectural design and together form a particularly beautiful and convincing pair.

The heavy, stepped square base forms the foundation of the design and continues via a square midsection into a tall, vertically fluted column. The combination of dark bronze-toned surfaces with gold/brass-toned accents emphasizes the classical lines and gives the lamps a luxurious, warm appearance.

The design is clearly inspired by classical column architecture and the Empire style. In particular, the symmetrical construction, fluted shafts, profiled bases, and gold-colored details contribute to a monumental character. This makes the lamps an excellent fit for both a classical interior and a Hollywood Regency, hotel-chic, eclectic, or modern interior, where they can serve as contrasting focal points.

Both lamps are equipped with large, tapered brown lampshades with a reptile/leather-like texture. The warm interior of the shades disperses a warm, golden light when the lamps are on. As seen in the photos, both lamps are functional.

Particularly appealing is that this is an original, matching pair. They are ideal for symmetric placement on two side tables, a large sideboard or console, on either side of a sofa or bed, or in a spacious hallway.

In addition, there is a number/marking on the underside. The existing factory label provides a nice confirmation of the lamps’ origin.

Herda was a Dutch lighting producer best known for decorative interior lighting. This set is a fine example of the brand’s more classical and richly executed designs.

Condition

The lamps are in good vintage condition, with signs of use and aging appropriate to their age. On the metal parts there are locally light scratches, discoloration, patina, and small superficial signs of wear. These impart the lamps with an authentic vintage character.

The shades also show signs of use/age and variations in color and appearance between them. Please examine the detail photos carefully; they are an integral part of the condition description.
