Kun-it betel box from Myanmar, bamboo lacquered, in good antique condition, dating to circa 1930–1940, cylindrical, 9.5 cm high, 10 cm wide and 10 cm deep.

RARE BETEL BOX « KUN-IT » – BURMA – EARLY 20th CENTURY
Rare and remarkable Burmese betel box Kun-it, made of bamboo and richly coated with polychrome lacquer.
Cylindrical in form, the ensemble consists of several interlocking elements. It features a particularly refined decoration in red, green, black and light tones, executed according to traditional Burmese lacquer techniques, with figurative scenes, figures, architectures, geometric friezes and concentric motifs.
These boxes were traditionally intended to store the various ingredients necessary for the preparation of betel, notably leaves, areca nuts and lime. They also occupied an important place in hospitality and presentation practices in Burma.
