Description from the seller
Beautiful, complete and authentic set of five hexagonal cast-iron shop or weighing weights dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. These robust weights were originally used on large balances and industrial weighing scales in shops and warehouses. What makes this set particularly attractive to collectors and enthusiasts of industrial antiques is that each weight is equipped with a collapsible metal carrying ring that fits neatly into the recess of the hexagonal housing. The weights are in a lovely, well-worn vintage condition with a beautiful dark patina. The markings, weight indications, and historical initials (maker's marks/inspection stamps) remain very sharp and clearly legible, stamped into the cast iron. The set consists of the following weights (total weight 38 kg): 20 kg – The largest and heaviest model in the series; 10 kg – Marked with initials DB and featuring inspection marks on the top; 5 kg – Marked with initials JD and an inspection stamp; 2 kg – Marked with initials DB; 1 kg – The smallest weight in the series, marked with initials WK. A splendid industrial object, perfect as a decoration in a rustic kitchen, as a historical addition to a shop interior, or to be used as unique doorstops or bookends. Specifications: Material: Cast iron; Shape: Hexagonal (six-sided) with recessed ring; Period: approx. 1880 - 1920; Total mass: 38 kg; Condition: Good antique condition with normal signs of age and use consistent with the age (please see photos for an accurate impression).
