Vintage bone, wood and brass jewelry box – openwork decorative motif – violet velvet interior – India, 20th century
Description
Elegant small decorative jewelry box, probably made in India during the second half of the 20th century, around the 1970s-1980s.
The box consists of a wooden structure covered with natural bone plaques, adorned with numerous repoussé and chased brass fittings.
The domed lid features a pretty openwork design with plant motifs, surrounded by small brass metal beads. The two ends are decorated with ornamental floral friezes.
Opening is via a small decorative metal clasp. Inside, the box retains its violet velveteen fabric lining, creating a beautiful contrast with the ivory and gold tones of the exterior.
The underside is also covered with several bone plaques joined together.

Width: about 5.5 to 6 cm
Height: about 4 cm
Condition: good vintage overall. Some minor signs of use, patina and small irregularities corresponding to age and artisanal manufacture. The clasp and hinges are present. The violet interior is preserved with a few normal signs of wear.
No major restoration noted in the photographs.
A very beautiful decorative object that could be used as a jewelry box, a small-item box, or a collector’s piece.
