Design Crucifix - Copper, Brass - 1850-1900 - antique standing crucifix

A particularly unique standing crucifix in brass, executed with a beautifully stylized front and back DEPOSE marked, typical of the 19th century. A very nicely styled, distinctive crucifix.

The cross rests on a heavy square, architecturally formed base with engraved fan and arch motifs. The corpus of Christ is separately rendered in relief and attached to the cross. Above the corpus are the inscription INRI and a striking rising-sun motif with rays.

The ends of the cross are also stylized and adorned with elongated decorative lines. The combination of the symmetrical design, sun rays, and geometric base gives the whole piece a pronounced decorative character.

Interesting is the reverse side, where several stamped markings are visible, including “DEOSSE” (reading uncertain), “2” and “DL”. These markings are explicitly noted and photographed, but without further documentation no specific maker is attributed.

The crucifix appears to be made of cast brass-bronze colored metal and has developed an attractive natural patina over the years.
