Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.

A rare lot of two antique Indian objects: tribal ankle bracelets transformed into bowls in bronze with a dark patina, 5 × 11.5 × 11.5 cm and about 330 g, and a late 19th‑century North Indian inkpot or cosmetic container in brass or bronze with a silvered top, 3.9 × 10 × 10 cm and about 150 g.

Description from the seller

LINKS
Beautifully designed antique Indian tribal ankle bracelets, which have subsequently been ingeniously transformed into containers or vide-poches.

Lovelyly shaped antique Indian tribal ankle bracelet from the early twentieth century, which was later skillfully converted into a functional ashtray or decorative vide-poche. The object is made of bronze, using the traditional Dhokra lost-wax method. The exterior shows a rich, dark patina of age and is richly decorated around the rim with extremely detailed craftsmanship, including refined dotted relief, geometric zigzag patterns, and fine, openwork openings. In the central opening, a flat, smooth brass base plate was soldered to make the piece usable as a small container, while the interior still reveals the authentic golden metallic luster.

Dimensions: 5x11.5x11.5 cm
Weight: 330 g

RECHTS
This unique and rare collectible is an antique, handmade inkpot or cosmetic container, crafted in North India (region of Rajasthan) during the late 19th century. The object is masterfully shaped with the traditional 'Gokhru' motif, an iconic Indian pattern of sturdy, pyramid-shaped spines that historically served as symbolic protection against negativity. The spines are surrounded by hand-engraved diamond patterns and geometric dotwork, flanked by refined bead borders on the top.

The object is artisanal cast from heavy brass or bronze and was originally finished with a silver-plated surface. The underside shows a beautiful, lived-in patina where the warm glow of the underlying base metal shines through authentically due to wear. On the side is the original rugged hinge system, still equipped with the authentic closure pin. The interior of the compact reservoir shows dark oxidation marks indicating historical use. The lot is in fair antique condition with natural aging marks and lacks the original top lid, which is inherent to the age and heavy use of such travel attributes. This object weighs about 150 grams and has external dimensions of 3.9 cm high by 10 cm in diameter, making it a distinctive and decorative centerpiece for enthusiasts of Asian art and antique writing cultures.

Dimensions: 3.9x10x10 cm
Weight: 150 g
