Precious table service for 6 people from the famous Italian manufacturer Galvani.
Finest porcelain, elegant and refined decoration with a double line in virgin gold and fluting along the profile. The model is taken from a great success of the Richard Ginori di Doccia manufactory.
The set consists of 6 flat plates and 6 soup plates.
The Service is in excellent condition, with no breaks. Small stains are noted on some plates, shown in the last photographs.
The Galvani manufactory was founded in Pordenone in 1811 by Giuseppe Galvani. At first the mark was a stylized anchor, then a stylized G, for a short period the inscription GALVANI in a rectangle (1933-34), and when the factory passed into the hands of Andrea Galvani it changed to a rooster, as in the case of this set of plates.
Galvani, unlike other important ceramic factories such as Richard Ginori, Fontebasso, Società Ceramica Laveno, was born modern at the beginning of the nineteenth century and, lacking a seven hundred-year tradition in its history, differentiated itself by addressing a more popular market with earthenware products.
The golden age of Galvani is between the two World Wars, exhibiting many artistic works in Milan and at the Venice Biennale, mainly dedicating itself to aerographed decorations, typical of Art Deco.
The slow decline occurs in the 1950s and 1960s when, due to a lack of artistic and technological renewal, it struggles to assert itself in an increasingly demanding market.
Galvani becomes the property in 1973 of Ugo Orlandi who sells it in 1979 to Tognana Ceramiche. In 1983 Galvani is closed.
