In the Christian tradition, Saint Christopher is the patron saint of travelers. The legend tells the epic of Offerus, a giant devoted to helping pilgrims cross a powerful and dangerous river. One night, a child asked him to carry him to the other bank. In the midst of the tumultuous waters, the child became so heavy that Offerus believed he bore the weight of the world: it was Christ bearing the trials of humanity. Renamed Christophore, the “Bearer of Christ,” the giant received divine blessing for his devotion. For centuries, sailors, pilgrims and travelers wear his medal as a sign of protection and reassurance. It watches over roads, eases fears during crossings, and reminds of the presence of a benevolent guardian who accompanies the traveler through the unforeseen to bring them safely back to their loved ones.
