Candleholder (2) - Bronze, Brass - Menora, neo-baroque

A particularly decorative lot consisting of two heavy seven-armed menorah-shaped candelabra, one in bronze and one in brass. The candelabra are not identical and therefore do not form an original factory pair. It is precisely the subtle differences in size, material, patina, and ornamentation that together make them a uniquely attractive combination.

Both pieces have the classic seven-arm configuration with three progressively rising pairs of arms around a central light holder. The curved arms are adorned with a beautifully profiled, almost bead- or bamboo-like relief. The heavy, multi-angled bases are richly decorated with foliate, shell, and volute motifs.

The bronze version has a deeper, warmer patina with natural signs of age. The brass menorah has a brighter gold color and a more pronounced shine.

Meaning and original use:
The form is based on the biblical seven-armed menorah, one of the oldest symbols within Jewish tradition. The original menorah stood in the Tabernacle and later in the Temple in Jerusalem according to the Hebrew Bible.

Dating and origin:
Based on construction, casting, screw connections, base shape, and decorative detailing, these candelabra are most likely from the mid-20th century, circa 1950–1970.

Style:
The candelabra combine a traditional menorah form with historizing / neo-Baroque ornamentation. Characteristic are the heavily profiled bases, floral leaf motifs, volutes, and rich gold-tone appearance.

Condition:
Both pieces are in good vintage condition.
They show normal signs of use and aging, including local patina, slight discoloration, minor scratches, and light oxidation traces. Especially inside a few candle holders there is natural greenish oxidation visible, characteristic of copper-containing alloys.
These signs of age have deliberately not been fully wiped away and contribute to the character of the pieces. No damages.

Interior styling:
Because of their sculptural form and warm metal tones, these candelabra work wonderfully as statement objects. They fit especially well in a classic, eclectic chic, maximalist, neo-Baroque, Hollywood Regency, bohemian-luxe, or modern interior with antique accents.
On a dark console, marble fireplace, large dining table, or black plinth they almost acquire the appearance of museum objects. In a sleek modern interior, the old bronze and brass provide an appealing contrast.
The two do not need to stand side by side: placing them on either side of a fireplace, artwork, or console very beautifully emphasizes their different character.

Shipping:
Due to the combined weight of approximately 3.7 kg and the extended arms, both candelabra are packed separately and very carefully.
The arms, candle holders, and bases are extra protected against pressure and impact. They are then placed together in a sturdy outer carton with ample protective material.
