TYPE I is a personal art project by Pieter Bas Bouwman, who has lived with type 1 diabetes since the age of seven. The work translates a daily reality into a visual language of repetition and rhythm.
At its core is the tension between control and temptation, two forces that constantly compete for priority.
Each piece consists of a box filled with insulin syringes, arranged by hand into a pattern on a wooden substrate. The placing requires patience and precision; the repetition that emerges evokes the routines that structure a life, whether or not diabetes is involved.
A plexiglass cover completes the work, a temptation that remains visible, but just out of reach.
