Globe - 1980-1990

Lovely small vintage desk globe by G.W. Bacon, about 12 to 13 cm in diameter, mounted on a base and a black metal meridian.

The sphere is made of heavy cardboard covered with a printed map, with beautiful antique colors: blue-green oceans and countries in various shades. The map is very detailed in English with roads, distances, ocean currents, the equator and tropics.

The simultaneous presence of Burkina Faso, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the U.S.S.R. likely dates the map to the early 1980s. A small cartouche also reads: “The Curvature of the Earth Surface per Mile About 8 Inches.”

Condition: good vintage condition with a nice patina. Signs of wear and oxidation on the metal parts, as well as some creases, cracks and marks on the map paper, visible in the photos. The globe nevertheless retains very beautiful colors and a lot of charm.
