Description from the seller
About the Work
In Sacred Alliance, GYL conjures a female figure who is at once sovereign and mysterious, enveloped by the flamboyant presence of a dragon. The two beings seem to share the same breath: the serenity of the face answers the creature's untamed power.
Deep reds, blazing golds, and intense blues compose a spectacular palette. The dragon, unfurled like an ancestral guardian, almost enfolds the young woman with its sinuous curves while its gaze, calm and determined, remains fixed on the viewer.
The work thus plays on a fascinating opposition: grace and strength, silence and fire, the human and the legendary. The richness of the ornaments, the sculptural coiffure, and the meticulous treatment of the scales evoke a dreamed Orient, nourished by myth and symbolism.
In Asian tradition, the dragon can embody power, protection, prosperity, and life energy. Here, it does not seem threatening toward the young woman: it becomes her protector, perhaps even the reflection of her own inner strength.
A particularly decorative and theatrical work, whose tight composition and luminous colors produce an immediate presence.
