Description from the seller
Service of 10 plates in Lunéville faience, made in light paste ceramic and decorated with refined transfer print in monochrome pink. The pattern depicts a suggestive scene of the French countryside, with a characteristic rural landscape consisting of trees, houses, fences and human figures.
In the center of the composition stands out a horse-drawn carriage, in motion along a country road, while in the background rustic buildings and a small inn appear, creating a scene with a narrative character particularly pleasant. The landscape is enriched by large trees, vegetation and figures that contribute to give depth to the representation.
The pink camaïeu, obtained through different intensities of the same shade, lends the whole piece an elegant and delicately vintage look. The edge of the tasting plate is animated by further landscape and plant elements, while the design occupies a large part of the surface, in keeping with a decorative type highly appreciated in late 19th and early 20th century French production.
The Lunéville manufactory, one of the most important French ceramic producers, is particularly noted for the production of fine faience and for the wide repertoire of printed decorations, including the so-called assiettes parlantes, in which scenes and images tell episodes, landscapes and subjects of daily life.
Diameter 24.5 cm.
Good overall condition.
