TYPE I is a personal art project by Pieter Bas Bouwman, who has lived with type 1 diabetes since he was seven years old. The work translates a daily reality into a visual language of repetition and rhythm.
At the center is the tension between control and temptation, two forces continuously vying for primacy.
Each work consists of a box filled with insulin syringes, hand-arranged into a pattern on a wooden substrate. The act of placing them requires patience and precision; the resulting repetition evokes the routines through which a life is structured, whether diabetes is involved or not.
A Plexiglas cover completes the piece, temptation that remains visible but just out of reach.
