This work is a piece from the Dot Art series.
It was made by coloring 494 (26x19) small wooden discs, each with a diameter of 2.50 cm.

This work is a fascinating dialogue between classic pointillism and contemporary pixel art. Through the skilled use of small painted wooden discs, arranged in a regular grid, the artist manages to evoke an iconic figure.
The strength of the painting lies in the contrast between its materiality, where the organic texture and the wood grain warm the composition, and its perception. Up close, the piece is an exercise in geometric precision and abstraction, a landscape of texture, pigments and micro-universes. From afar, stepping back, the eye blends the colors and the face of the woman emerges with surprising clarity.

Born in 1974 I am self-taught.

After an early period dedicated to sculpture there was a long pause lasting almost twenty years. Since December 2014 I have returned to the “two dimensions” for reasons of time and space, setting sculpture aside and dedicating myself to acrylic painting.

I love painting abstract landscapes but recently I have been pushing myself to paint faces of people, both imaginary and real.

For me, painting is “freezing time” in that exact moment; a painting of mine is often a faded memory and therefore my works are “consumed, eroded by time.” Sometimes the subjects of my paintings are glimpses of walls also eroded by time, with moss and mushrooms that—over time—grow on the surface.
The passing of time is the main theme of my works.

Coming from a wonderful experience with clay manipulation, I love sculpture, the third dimension, the sense of touch, and my paintings are often characterized by reliefs that are perceptible to the touch and to the eye.

Recently, after several years during which my works were made from bits of recycled paper forming figures, I am pushing myself to explore Optical Art where I use painted wooden discs arranged in lines and grids with mathematical rigor that up close seem to form an abstract, colorful canvas, but the more you step back the more a portrait emerges from the many painted wooden discs.

Violence against women is a theme that characterizes almost all of my works when I reproduce female faces, precisely to give them a voice when they do not have the strength or courage to denounce the fact that they are not their partner’s dolls and cannot be mistreated or worse, victims of violence.
