A Ridge of Folded Silence begins with a single gesture: a field of white ridges rising out of the dark, as though a great page had been lifted and folded back upon itself. Where the fold begins, the lines break their rhythm and turn toward a new horizon, edge to edge, catching the light at a steeper angle than the field around them.

Nothing here is painted, printed or inked. The image is built entirely from depth, from what has been taken away rather than added, so that every ridge and every turn of light exists because of an absence held in the surface.

Seen straight on, in even light, the work can seem to hold its breath, a pale field with barely a whisper of form. Move closer, or let the light shift, and the folded corner rises into view, its stripes tilting into a second rhythm, a page caught mid turn.

From across a room the piece reads as monumental and still, a single quiet shape against black. Up close it becomes a field of depth, ridge after ridge receding and returning, inviting the eye to trace the fold the way a hand might trace the corner of a page.

The fold is the quiet subject here, the moment something private turns to face us, a corner lifted just enough to change everything beneath it. It speaks to memory creased and returned to, to attention interrupted, to the small turn that reorders an entire field without breaking it.

About the Artist

My name is Tijs Dragtsma, founder of TD Fine Art Studio.

As an artist, I am driven by a constant desire to explore new visual languages. I do not see art as a fixed style, but as an evolving field of discovery where material, structure, light and emotion come together.

My work often begins with a simple question. How can a material speak in a new way. How can hardness become intimacy. How can precision create emotion. That search lies at the heart of everything I create.

Others emerge through absence, shadow, reflection or tension. What connects them is a shared commitment to originality, clarity and emotional presence.

I am fascinated by contrast. Between strength and fragility. Between control and feeling. Between what is visible and what is left open to interpretation. My goal is not simply to make an image, but to create a work that holds attention, invites reflection and continues to reveal itself over time.
