Dijkstra Lampen - Hanging lamp - Flower - Chrome, Steel, Plexiglas - Ufo Dutch Design

Very decorative vintage Flower hanging lamp by Dijkstra Lamps, executed in a characteristic combination of amber-coloured transparent glass, a cream/white inner shade, and chrome-plated metal details.

The design of the glass shade is the main eye-catcher. Visually the shade consists of strongly rounded, petal-like segments, making the lamp clearly resemble a flower from above and from the side. The thick, ribbed amber glass catches and refracts light in a beautiful way. In combination with the light inner shade, it creates a pleasant, warm and diffuse light when illuminated.

On top of the glass shade there is a round metal cover plate with ventilation openings and a central chrome hanger. The combination of smokey/amber glass, chrome and the warm plastic inner shade gives the lamp the pronounced Space Age / seventies look that is characteristic of much Dutch lighting from this period.

An interesting component is the spiral, extendable suspension. This allows the lamp to be adjusted in height within the range of the spiral cord. At the ceiling there is the original-looking black cylindrical ceiling cap. Thus the suspension itself is an important part of the design and not merely the glass lampshade.

The photos also show the construction from the inside. The lamp has a central fitting and metal support structure. The lighting is shown in working condition in the photos; the warm light colour in the pictures nicely demonstrates how the inner shade distributes light over the amber glass.

Condition

The lamp is in good vintage condition with normal signs of use and aging. On the metal/chrome parts there are localized light scratches, signs of wear, and some superficial discoloration/soiling visible. The shade also has small signs of use. These are appropriate to the object's age.
