Description from the seller
Magnificent Egyptian canopic vase from the late 19th/early 20th century, Egypt, the “Grand Tour.” Signature marked on the bottom.
Very beautiful piece in heavy terracotta with turquoise glaze. Amphora topped with a lid sculpted as a human head wearing a nemes or other pharaonic headdress. The body of the vase features a relief-engraved cartouche.
Canopes were vases used during mummification rituals.
