Renowned for its mastery in fine craftsmanship (Certosina-style marquetry, ivory, and ebony inlay) and awarded at major international exhibitions (such as the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1878), the gallery was granted the prestigious title of "Antiquaria della Real Corte" (Supplier to the Royal Court).
The Arrigoni firm was not merely a workshop for fine period furniture, but a true landmark gallery for Milanese aristocracy and high-bourgeois collectors. Pregevole dipinto raffigurante un giullare danzante in abiti d'epoca bicolori rossi e bruni, intento a sorreggere una marotte(lo scettro dei folli con testa di bambola). Sullo sfondo si apre un tipico paesaggio rurale fiammingo con avventori e architetture rustiche. La composizione riprende con gusto e perizia il celebre modello del "Giullare" (The Jester) di David Teniers il Giovane (1610–1690), il cui esemplare originale è conservato al Museo Puškin di Mosca.
Analisi Stilistica
L'opera si distingue per una pennellata ricca e vibrante, con vivaci contrasti cromatici e un’ottima resa espressiva del volto del protagonista. La Casa antiquaria "Vedova Arrigoni" ha rappresentato un'eccellenza assoluta nel panorama dell'antiquariato e dell'ebanisteria artistica a Milano tra il XIX e l'inizio del XX secolo. Rinomata per la maestria nelle lavorazioni di pregio (intarsi alla Certosina, avorio ed ebano) e premiata in importanti esposizioni (come l'Esposizione Universale di Parigi del 1878), la galleria fu insignita del prestigioso titolo di "Antiquaria della Real Corte".
Antiqua nuova serie
La ditta Arrigoni non era solo una manifattura di arredi d'alta epoca, ma una vera e propria galleria di riferimento per la grande aristocrazia e l'alta borghesia collezionistica milanese.
